Having lived my life like an unscripted musical, I am continuing on with my harmonious journey through the School of Metaphysics’ creative arts.

There is a wonderful history within the School of Metaphysics that includes cantatas, global performances, and an evolving student-composed hymnal of spiritual songs. Through the decades, these musicians have contributed their talents, understandings, and vision, without knowing the breadth and scope of where their creations might land. I have walked into this work of many visionary, musically inclined world servers, and I see myself merging into the heart of what exists, and serving as a leader in the growing musical department of the SOM.

It is a humble position to be a member of a School of Metaphysics cantata. We are not performers. We are deliverers of a message. We learn to uphold the state of mind necessary to portray certain holy thought forms. Therefore, having been raised with an element of prestige when it comes to music and performance, what I am now experiencing is musical evolution. My father is the Music Man, and you can consider my family to be the Vontraps. Hailing from Ohio, my father performed with the Dayton Opera. Due to the divorce of my parents at a young age, these are my first memories of him. They are beautiful memories, and he has inspired and taught me to sing very early in my lifetime.

I hold fond memories of my entire family coming together during numerous Christmas and Birthday parties—parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents—each either playing a classical instrument or singing in a wide range of harmony. It is a personal and group test to see how well we can perform while sight-reading or improvising the music. My father is an instrumental and choral conductor, a genuine inspiration for myself as a growing leader. My mother, also, is a lady songbird, and because of this I know my soul chose my family well for the work that is ahead of me.

The choices I am making are soul choices, where they do not gratify the temporary ego. It’s an easy choice to serve others through music when I think about the other option, which is being of the mindset that I am maintaining an impressive musical repertoire. I’ve always wanted to understand what really matters in life. The truth of this inquiry becomes more illumined for me the more I involve myself in SOM musical creations. There is a certain caliber of what we offer that does not show up in the operas and chamber choirs. It is a depth in spirit that makes us all more whole.

For many, music is considered the language of the soul. It is a whimsical thrill that speaks to the feelings of human man. There are scientific principles that explain these addicting phenomena. It is the study of neuroscience music. Existing today is a plethora of data explaining the brainwave activity that occurs while listening to particular music. This means that the feelings produced from music, such as chills running up and down the spine, excitement, or anger are products of brainwaves. In my study of metaphysics—the study of mind and consciousness—I am coming to a deeper sense of Self in the ways that I interpret music. Due to the physical effects that music has on my brain, as indicated by the rising neuroscience technology, music can be a conduit for the movement of energy, thought, and feeling within my whole Self—my mind—lending a greater understanding of creation. A recent Health Analysis of mine states that through music; I can “recognize the resonant frequency of life form, including her own as well as that around her.”

The School of Metaphysics gave the gift of unity to the world in March of this year. Over two-dozen SOM students traveled from cities around the Midwest, where we have school centers, to create a musical expression of prayer through out the world’s religions. This was the evolved version of the POWER of PRAYER around the WORLD CANTATA given by the School of Metaphysics to the Parliament of the World’s Religions in 1993 in Chicago, Illinois.

The reality of learning through musical creation is alive and thriving in the SOM music department. We include interactive Holy Scripture study, dream study, and group consciousness activities through meditations and visualization practices. More than new-age ideas, this schoolroom is spirituality and science coming together to know a greater truth. As each individual involved in the musical productions align themselves with universal laws and universal truths, the caliber of what exists on the planet is raised, and the wisdom gleaned can be passed on rather than forgotten. It is a service for humanity, to where what we are doing with our music department is a genuine activity that causes peace in the world. •
